Missed a week

But it was necessary. No really, the week revolving around Labor Day and retail in general makes for a great deal of tired. On top of that I had just started a new job, so I was learning the ropes during a crazy time. This new job was gotten to replace my job at Kate Spade. A sad day when I had to give my two weeks notice, but necessary. You see Kate Spade started selling too much apparel and I was told I had to choose between them and Talbots. Seeing as I've started to do some of the merchandising at Talbots and there was a better chance of promotion at the time, I stayed with Talbots. And to compensate, but not conflict, I now work at Perry Ellis.


Perry Ellis, why does that sound familiar? Well, for those of you who don't follow men's wear I have a little story for you:
At fashion week back in the fall of 1992, the Perry Ellis S/S 1993 runway had a rather bazar show for the audience - one that wasn't well received at the time in fact. At the time a barely know designer sent an entire line of grunge inspired pieces down the runway. His name was Marc Jacobs. Yeah, Perry Ellis was that show. Cool piece of history if I do say so myself. And on November 3rd it will be the 20th anniversary of said show, and I'm going to try and incorporate some grunge into my look if I'm working that day - that should be interesting.

Snow to Resort Wear

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am in the process of gaining six inches of snow in my backyard. Funny to watch the dog go outside believing that this time it won't be cold, and being proven wrong, but... it does make me wish for places like Florida, southern California, and Arizona. Cool enough to wear jeans and jackets, but warm enough where you can wear heels without the fear of frost bite, as well as no furs. Yes I love my fur, but there are times where I fear for its safety. Here's the thing about furs, you wear them out, make the go bald in places, when you allow things to rub against them. Basic purses can do it! So being able to go back to a simple jean jacket and not fear too much about wear would be nice.
Ah well, you can't have it all. Speaking of warm weather, the snow has made me turn to resort wear for some inspiration on adding warmth to my wardrobe. Yes, resort lines came out a while ago, but who takes the time too look at them? They come on the heels of fall lines and are simply put on the back burner till around... now actually. So here are some of my resort picks for the moment, and hopefully they'll put a little warmth into your winter days.

Also, colors like coral, navy, and yellow are in designer's mixes, with draped sheaths and simple a-line dresses sprinkled in for taste. And now I'm excited to go shopping my closet, even if I don't get to go to a warm climate afterwards. 

Grey days

I forgot how much it hurts to have that which you want taken away. Applied for an internship as a window dresser at Ralph Lauren on Michigan Ave. (a DREAM job of mine!), and a little before 9:30 this morning, right as I'm about to hop in the shower, I get the call saying that the position was filled, and not by me. I feel kind of grey and hollow now. Does anyone else feel that way? What do you do when it happens? I can definitely say that I'm very glad I don't have to work today and plaster on a fake smile. Can't do it. Not today.

Enough with the depression. Let's have some fun, shall we?!

Guess what! It's fashion "week" (has been for awhile),  and that means all the spring collections are blooming on the runways. So far the best trend I've seen: Full, high waisted skirts. The repressed Lolita lover in me is squealing with delight! There are several skirts I've been designing and wanting to make, and now I have a reason to do so. Bo-yah!
Other trends to pay attention to: Late 60's early 70's inspiration; the stars you saw on Dolce & Gabbana's fall runway? Acne's got them now!; Soft white - More ecru and white with the barest hint of pink in soft pieces like flowing dresses, blouses and pants; Easter pastels - Think childhood and ice cream here people; And a little Great Gatsby.
